8 facts you should know if you're a fan of V and Evey

We all know who Guy Fawkes is: the infamous conspirator who tried to set Westminster&rsquo;s Palace on fire on November 5th 1605. However, this character reached fame only, in 1989 when Alan Moore, English writer, together with David Lloyd, published the comic V for Vendetta, now considered one of Moore&rsquo;s masterpiece. The story take place in London, in a dystopian future where power is in the hands of a totalitarian government. In this environment lives, V, an enigmatic masked character in whom the desire for freedom merges with a strong anarchic spirit. The story became so successful that in 2005 James McTeigue was hired to make a movie out of it: a high concept thriller released in cinemas a year later, with a screenplay by the Wachowskis, and starring Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as the Evey Hammond.

Freely inspired by comics, the film is set in a dystopian future, a futuristic Britain ruled by a repressive regime, at the head of which is Adam Sutler, High Chancellor, opposed by a mysterious individual, V, who always shows himself with the Guy Fawkes mask on his face. During one night&nbsp;V meets Evey Hammond and defends her from three creepy individuals. The two begin a friendship that will turn Evey from the frightened girl of the beginning into a fearless woman. The film also let us discover the thoughts and deepest intentions of V: ​​his purpose is to blow up Parliament&nbsp;exactly one year after the events at the beginning of the film. We will never find out if he&#39;s successful, but the citizens of London are inspired to also don his mask and take to the streets.

V for vendetta become a cult favorite. The whole film revolves around number 5:&nbsp;the name of the protagonist, &quot;V&quot; is the Roman numera&nbsp;for 5. November&nbsp;is the eleventh month of the year so according to the Americans the date would be written as 11/05, exactly the&nbsp;time when V&#39;s army prepares to blow up Parliament (The scene also includes Big Ben which marks the 11:05, forming a V) Furthermore, when V introduces himself to&nbsp;Evey, he starts with &#39;Voila&#39; and keeps going usesing only&nbsp;words that begin with letter V:&nbsp;&nbsp;the total number of v&#39;s in the statement is 55

Wachowskis, who wrote and produced it, were such big fans of the comics, that they actually had a script written for the movie before they started developing The Matrix.

James Purefoy was originally cast as V, and he filmed some scenes too that are in the movie, but&nbsp;he was replaced by Weaving four weeks into production. Weaving just dubbed over Purefoy&#39;s performance. Purefoy claimed that wearing the mask was making impossible for him to breath. V was played by four different people at the end.

Natalie Portman&#39;s commitment to Evey Hammond went above and beyond the role. Portman did a heap of research on the themes present throughout the film, focusing on books and films about radicals, anarchic behavior, and fascist movements

The movie is set set in a futuristic England but many people aren&#39;t aware the majority of the film was actually shot in Germany. Only&nbsp;some locations such as Parliament, Big Ben, and Downing Street were shot in London, the rest of the film was shot in studios located in Germany.

For the domino scene where V&nbsp; flips the red and black tiles to form a giant letter V, 22,000 tiles were used. It took 200 hours to put everything together, and four professional domino builders worked on the scene
