HBO Denies Allegations of a Toxic Work Environment on 'Euphoria'
HBO issues a statement following allegations made by extras and production members about toxic work environment behind the scenes of Euphoria.
Euphoria extras and production members report abusive conditions on the set of the acclaimed series and HBO has just spoken out about the allegations. “The well-being of the cast and crew on our productions is always a priority. Production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols. (...) We maintain an open line of communication with all guilds, including SAG-AFTRA. There was never any formal questioning,” the statement reads.
Some employees said that HBO promoted exhausting recordings and disrespected labor rights in this second season of "Euphoria", which ended last Sunday (27). They cite 18-hour workdays, delays in the delivery of meals and even moments of banning the use of the bathroom.
"I understand I'm doing background work. I'm not the most important person there, I know my place. But it got to the point where I was... 'Please let me go to the bathroom.' that I can't go for 30 minutes and don't tell me I can't have a snack when you're not going to feed me and it's 4 am. We didn't exist as people," said an extra.
HBO commented that it follows all SAG-AFTRA guidelines (a US union that represents approximately 160,000 film and television actors, journalists and other industry personalities) and says that so far, it has not received any formal inquiries from the union.
