Suspense & style by Prada and the spring summer 2025 fashion show
For spring summer 2025, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons stage a women's collection that is a clever play of strong elements and wearable pieces for everyday life, with an almost Hirschcockian touch of suspense in the air.
Prada must have a passion for Alfred Hitchcock, otherwise it is inexplicable how they manage to create that mix of excitement and suspense worthy of the great director. You enter the theater and the soundtrack hypnotizes you with slightly disturbing notes that not even the pastel blue setting (everything is covered in fabric, from the floor to the seats) can temper.
This time there is also an overload of agitation because while the guests take their places, in Barcelona Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli faces the regatta that could give it the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup, a mandatory step to battle in the America's Cup, a magnificent obsession of Patrizio Bertelli. The show begins, the models on the catwalk in fact seem to come out of a thriller, a sort of "good girls gone bad" in the Prada style.
The girls wear the sleeveless little black dress, only it is all riddled with maxi piercings. The jacket borrowed from their mother's wardrobe is paired with mirrored miniskirts. The sensible pleated skirts make them look reckless when they detach the belt at the waist and then fasten it with metal rings that reveal bare skin. The sunglasses stand out, gigantic, retro-futuristic, designed to cover a good bit of face. And even the bags and shoes get noticed, some are revisitations of iconic models from lace-ups with flat rope wedges to flaming high heels, nothing revolutionary in an absolute sense, but hyper-desirable, like the rest of the collection.
Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons succeed in the not so simple task of keeping the coolness coefficient high by sending pieces to the catwalk that, once the styling is dismantled, can be inserted without much effort into a real wardrobe. In the meantime, Luna Rossa wins and the happy ending in the theater becomes a triumph.
